DuPont's Kaladex brand polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) film is said to deliver cost-effective solutions to material problems for voice coils. Kaladex PEN film has been In tests in both ester- and hydrocarbon-based ferrofluids at 125°C, Kaladex PEN film shows virtually no change in properties, mass or dimensions, and the fluid themselves are unaffected- speakers use ferrofluids to dissipate heat from the voice coil. Designers can improve speaker sensitivity by using Kaladex PEN film to tighten voice coil gap tolerances and eliminate parasitic eddy current to extend frequency response. The film, when compared with paper products, reportedly provides increased stiffness, greater stretch resistance, lower creep, and good shape memory.
