A fault-protected input of ±36V with power on or ±40V with power off is carried by the MAX4510/MAX4520 fault-protected SPDT switches. During a fault condition, the switch input terminal becomes an open circuit, allowing only nanoamperes of leakage current flow from the source, while the switch output furnishes up to 13 mA from the appropriate polarity supply to the load. This enables unambiguous outputs when a fault begins and ends. The switches can protect signals operating from both single and dual power supplies. It features on-resistance and off leakage current in 0.5 nA at +25°C and 10 nA at +85°C. The MAX4510 is a normally closed switch while the MAX4520 is a normally open switch. Both devices are available in tiny 6-pin SOT-23 or 8-pin µMAX packages. Prices start from $0.92 each/1,000.
