The number of components in cellular handsets is said to be reduced with the introduction of four, dual-band and tri-band voltage-controlled oscillator modules, designed for use in cell phones operating in GSM, CDMA and TDMA protocols. Where two or three individual discrete RF components per handset may have been needed to accomplish global, mobile communications before, the new devices have integrated multiple frequency functionality into single, compact, SMT packages. Cellular handset manufacturers can create lighter, more compact handsets while benefiting from reduced component count and faster design cycle times. All devices are said to deliver high frequency, low phase noise signals with low load pull in a single miniaturized part.
