A voltage controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO), the 7311E series has been designed for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) applications. Measuring 9.6 mm (W) x 11.4 mm (L) x 3.9 mm (H), the device is reportedly 1/15th the volume of previous products, making it the smallest SMD crystal-based VCXO in the industry. It incorporates a 155 MHz fundamental crystal, bipolar oscillator circuit, and a selected multiplier/filter circuit. An analog low-phase noise circuit makes this VCXO a pure frequency source. The 7311E series delivers a frequency stability of ±50 ppm maximum over an operating temperature range of -10°C to +70°C, and is said to have very low jitter performance. The series operates on a supply voltage of 3.3 Vdc while consuming 85 mA. It comes in a frequency range of 622 MHz to 780 MHz. Applications include SONET, SDH, FEC/Super, and 10 gigabit FEC. Pricing is $34 each/10,000. NDK AMERICA INC., Schaumburg, IL. (800) 635-9825.
