Integrating electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for wireless handsets and PDAs, the CSPEMI204 and CSPEMI205 application-specific integrated passive (ASIP) devices are offered in chip-scale packaging (CSP) and provide ±8 kV contact discharge ESD protection as measured by the IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 standard and 15 kV ESD protection as per the human body model (MIL-STD-883D, method 3015). The CSPEMI204 provides EMI filtering with ESD protection for both a single channel microphone port and a single channel speaker port. The CSPEMI205 provides EMI filtering and ESD protection for wireless handsets with a single channel microphone port and a dual channel speaker port in support of stereo audio applications. Audio features of CSPEMI204 include a dual low-pass filter array integrating two pi-style filters while CSPEMI205 employs three pi-style filters. Both devices reject high frequencies in the 800 MHz to 2.7 GHz range with greater than +35 dB of attenuation. The pi-style filters support bi-directional filtering, controlling EMI both to and from the speaker and microphone elements, and support bipolar signals. Prices for CSPEMI204 and CSPEMI205 are $0.43 and $0.52, respectively, each/1,000. CALIFORNIA MICRO DEVICES CORP., Milpitas, CA. (408) 934-3114.
