Anticipating next-generation, high-data-rate designs, the company's digital cable assemblies employ patented AirMax connectors from FCI that provide reliable high-frequency performance without the need for elaborate shielding. Target markets for the assemblies include telecommunications, large-scale computing, and automatic test equipment. The cable/connector combo can provide an aggregate bandwidth up to 1 Terabit per second using 50 mm of backplane space. The cable assembly employs the company's expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) as the dielectric core, helically wrapped to ensure constant impedance throughout the length of the cables. Their smaller diameter and minimum bend radius allows more signal lines per area and allegedly delivers higher bandwidth performance than comparable cable configurations. Available in a number of standard config- urations, price is $1 per Gigabit per meter. W. L. GORE & ASSOCIATES INC., Elkton, MD, (800) 445-4673
