To meet emerging tire-pressure monitoring system mandates and torque sensing applications, Transense Technologies is integrating TMS320F28x digital signal controllers (DSCs) from Texas Instruments into what may be the automotive industry’s first piezo-electric surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor based systems. Operating in harsh or remote and industrial applications, the sensor units operate wirelessly, require no power source, and typically measure 11 mm x 3 mm and weigh less than 2g. Reportedly, employing the F28x-enabled SAW TPMS reduces accidents due to tire under inflation or failure and enhances fuel efficiency by up to 10%.
