An ultra-thin surface-mount microphone uses an acoustic transducer built with MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology combined with CMOS amplification to achieve its small size. The TRMO-4713 series microphones are well suited for any miniaturized, portable electronic equipment application in which high-temperature construction and tiny size are required. Applications include mobile phones, lapel mikes, and consumer appliances. MEMS-based construction enables small mechanical components to be built on the surface of a silicon wafer to produce a finished size of 4.72 mm x 3.30 mm x 1.25 mm, which is approximately 10 times smaller that a similar unit utilizing ECM construction. The microphone is omnidirectional, has an operating voltage range of 1.5 to 3.6 Vdc, and is Pb free. Its high heat resistance allows for reflow soldering in high-speed manufacturing operations. The TRMO-4713 MEMS series microphones cost roughly $1.50 each in lots of 1000 units. Shipment is from stock for small-quantity orders, with larger quantities requiring four to six weeks ARO.
