Two families of high-accuracy, low-cost temperature sensors target applications such as notebook PCs, servers, and industrial and embedded systems. The sensors offer a variety of customizable features aimed at improving accuracy and minimizing the system-level footprint. The EMC141x family is designed for measuring the temperature of a substrate diode found on GPUs, CPUs, FPGAs or ASICs. Accuracy is aided by features such as automatic beta compensation, which detects the requirements of a thermal diode and self-configures the measurement attributes for an accurate reading. The EMC107x family is designed for general-purpose thermal management needs where a substrate diode is not being measured by the remote sensor. Both series use anti-parallel diodes to minimize device footprint and to combine the functionality of two remotes into two pins. Each family of devices comes with fixed and addressable SMBus options. Addressable versions of these devices simplify ordering and inventory for programs using more than one device. Samples of the EMC141X and EMC107X families are available now and range in price from $0.75 to $1.00, and $0.65 to $0.95 per unit, respectively. Pricing is based on lots of 1000. SMSC, Hauppauge, NY.
