The MAX16914 and MAX16915 over-voltage protection controllers employ a unique architecture that senses the input and output voltages of two back-to-back p-channel MOSFETs to provide over-voltage protection with reportedly ideal diode characteristics. When forward biased, the MOSFETs have a voltage drop that is much lower than a traditional blocking diode. During reverse-battery fault conditions, they turn off to prevent reverse current flow. Both devices consume 30 mA of quiescent current and include over-temperature-protection circuitry. AEC-Q100 qualified and available in thermally enhanced, 10-pin microMAX packages, pricing starts at $1.60 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
