Mid-Range Ir Sensors Feature Digital Or Analog Outputs

July 14, 2010
Vishay’s latest family of mid-range infrared (Ir) sensors offer digital and analog outputs in three package types.

Claiming an industry-best response time of 300 ms, Vishay’s latest family of mid-range infrared (Ir) sensors offer digital and analog outputs in three package types. Consuming a supply current of 0.85 mA, the detectors specify a range of up to 30m when used as part of an interrupter design and a range of up to 3m when used as part of a reflective sensor. The TSOP4038, TSOP58038, and TSOP5038 IR sensors with digital outputs feature a fixed gain, ensuring the detection threshold and resulting detection distance is fixed. The TSOP4P38, TSOP5P38, and TSOP58P38 are Ir proximity sensors. The lengths of their output pulse in response to the emitter signal varies in proportion to the amount of light reflected from the object being detected. For near objects, the output pulse approaches 100 % of the emitted pulse and for far objects the output pulse becomes shorter. All six sensors in the offering provide shielding against EMI and operate from a supply voltage of 2.7V to 5.5 V. Available now, pricing $1 per piece. VISHAY INTERTECHNOLOGY, INC., Malvern, PA.
