Pulse Electronics says its new near-field-communications (NFC) ferrite-sheet antenna is 40% thinner than comparable antennas, yet still complies with EMVCo specifications. Thus, with the antenna, mobile devices can read data from a distance of up to 40 mm, which lets them communicate with other wireless devices for payments, access and control, credential storage and exchange, and content consumption. The antenna, measuring 35 by 30 mm with minimum thickness of 0.185 mm and a pad size of 2 by 2 mm, send and receives clear signals even when installed in a handset that’s close to the battery or metal housing. It consists of a thin ferrite with one-sided flex and a thinner adhesive. Contacts within the antenna facilitate implementation and shrink the footprint. To achieve the EMVCo target reading distance of 40 mm (EMVCo specifications ensure global interoperability and compatibility of chip-based payment cards and acceptance devices), the mechanics are optimized with the antenna.PULSE ELECTRONICS CORP.
