The 2.5-MHz programmable operating frequency of Exar’s XRP6670 current-mode, step-down (buck) regulator increases flexibility in optimizing component values, size, and performance. As a result, it enables precise management of electromagnetic-interference (EMI) compliance and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The device operates from a 2.6- to 5.5-V input voltage range, allowing for single-supply operation from standard 3.3- and 5-V power rails. It can supply up to 3 A of continuous current with an adjustable output voltage as low as 0.8 V, with better than 2% accuracy, according to the company. The synchronous pulse-width-modulation (PWM) XPR6670 accommodates a range of inductor and output capacitor values thanks to a constant 300-kHz to 2.5-MHz programmable operating frequency. The voltage regulator comes in a 3- by 3-mm, RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, 10-pin DFN package. Applications include industrial, medical, and audio/video equipment.
