Surface-mount transmissive optical sensors developed by Vishay Intertechnology feature an operating temperature range of −40° to +125°C. Coupling that with their ability to work in harsh environments, the sensors will find homes in a number of automotive and industrial applications. The single-channel TCPT1350X01 includes an infrared emitter and phototransistor detector located face-to-face in a surface-mount package. The dual-channel TCUT1350X01 contains an infrared emitter and two phototransistor detectors. Both have a phototransistor output and an aperture of 0.3 mm. Each operates at a 950-nm wavelength. Dimensions are 5.5 by 4 by 4 mm, and output current is 1.6 mA. Gap width measures 3.0 mm. Able to detect motion and speed, they can be employed as position sensors for encoders in high-temperature environments close to motors, as well as ignition locks and adaptive headlights. The dual-channel sensor also can be used to detect direction in, for example, electronic power-steering systems.
