Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors Offer High CV Ratings in Small Cases

Jan. 10, 2014
Molded, automotive-grade, MicroTan solid tantalum chip capacitors enable high capacitance-voltage ratings in case sizes 0603, 0805 and 0906.

A new molded, automotive-grade, MicroTan solid tantalum chip capacitor series from Vishay, TP8, is being touted as the first AEC-Q200-qualified tantalum capacitor series to employ a high-volumetrically efficient packaging solution enabling high capacitance-voltage ratings in small case sizes 0603, 0805 and 0906. All three case sizes are equipped with the same capacitance and voltage ratings of the larger devices (from 1.0 µF-40 V to 100 µF-6.3 V). The devices offer standard capacitance tolerances of ±10% and ±20% and an operating temperature range of -55°C to +85°C, or +125°C with voltage derating. A rectangular molded case encapsulation makes the capacitors ideal for high-volume PCB assembly, and the small size saves board space in bulk capacitance, energy storage, filtering, and decoupling in space-constrained automotive applications including tire pressure monitoring systems, camera modules, rearview mirrors and remote keyless entry. Available in 8 mm tape and reel packaging per EIA-481, samples and production quantities of the RoHS-compliant TP8 series capacitors are available now, with lead times of 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery only starts at $0.08 per piece.
