According to AVX Corp., its FFLC series of medium-power film capacitors exhibit higher specific energy than equivalent solutions (up to 240 J/liter), suiting them for dc-filtering applications. The capacitors, available in case sizes up to 35 liters, feature the company’s controlled self-healing technology, allowing for safer, higher-reliability, and longer-lifetime performance with no risk of explosion. A low stray inductance option enables high-frequency ripple current, which makes the devices a good fit for dc filtering in power-conversion applications. All consist of metallized, segmented polypropylene film encased in unpainted, rectangular, resin-filled aluminum cases. They include two mounting brackets and either four M8/15 female connections or four M12/30 male connections. Voltage ratings range from 800 to 1350 V; capacitance values range from 1750 to 20,600 µF; and parasitic inductance spans 32 to 55 nH. Maximum rms current is up to 400 A, with ±10% tolerance. At rated dc voltage, average lifetime reaches 100,000 hours. Hot-spot temperature is 70°C. Other applications include main or auxiliary inverters, wind turbines, solar photovoltaic inverters, and motor drives.
