Ultra Small Clock Generators Feature Ultra-Low Jitter

July 16, 2014
Flexible clock generators offer ultra-low jitter (160 fs [12 kHz - 20 MHz integration band]) in a 5 x 5 mm 32-pin QFN package, and automatic self-configuration at power-up.

Microsemi’s ZL30250 and ZL30251 flexible clock generators, offering ultra-low jitter (160 fs [12 kHz - 20 MHz integration band]) in a 5 x 5 mm 32-pin QFN package, are capable of replacing multiple high performance crystals and crystal oscillators for applications in wired and wireless communication equipment, enterprise switch and routers, enterprise networks, storage area networks, along with industrial automation. The new platform is flexible with highly configurable outputs and offers automatic self-configuration at power-up, supporting up to four different configurations using two device pins. This flexibility includes: any-to-any frequency conversion with 0 ppm error (inputs: 10 MHz - 1.25 GHz, outputs: 1 Hz - 1 GHz), three universal clock inputs connect to any signal format at any voltage, and up to three differential outputs and up to six CMOS outputs. The flexible clock generators offer NCO mode in which output frequencies can be controlled with very high resolution by system software, and can also generate PCIe clock signals with or without spread-spectrum modulation required in server, storage and communication equipment allowing system designers to comply with EMI requirements.
