A new family of high-bandwidth 3-axis, low-g, analog accelerometers from Freescale, Xtrinsic FXLN83xxQ, is designed to detect ultra-high frequency motion and vibration in industrial motors and equipment. The accelerometers consist of an acceleration sensor along with a CMOS signal conditioning and control ASIC in a 3 x 3 x 1.05 mm QFN package, while supporting visible leads for solder inspection. Operating from a 1.71 V to 3.6 V supply voltage, the accelerometers capture acceleration information, enabling algorithms to perform fault prognostication for predictive maintenance and condition monitoring. Supporting analog capability for industrial, medical tamper detection applications, the accelerometers accommodate a 2.7 kHz bandwidth and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. With non-ratiometric analog parallel outputs, the devices are universally compatible across a wide range of ADC-enabled low voltage MCUs to optimize system power. The DEMOFXLN83xxQ evaluation kit is available for the device, along with BRKOUT-FXLN83xxQ breakout boards. The FXLN83xxQ Xtrinsic accelerometers are available now for $1.20 to $1.70 each/1,000.
