Electro Standards To Develop Energy-Harvesting Buoy

Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), developer of electric motor control systems, was awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command to harvest energy from ocean wave motion.

Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), developer of electric motor control systems, was awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command to harvest energy from ocean wave motion. Electro Standards will use the funding to devise a means of energy harvesting for a small-diameter, free-floating buoy on the ocean surface. Since the buoy will contain electronics for remote communications and sensing, its design will ensure that it produces enough energy to constantly power all of its electrical systems. ESL will work in partnership with the University of Rhode Island-Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Center of Excellence in Undersea Technology.
