Servo Controller Takes Up Little Space

June 1, 2000

Taking up about as much space as a credit card, the RTC-3000 servo controller and amplifier measures only 3.68" x 1.815" x 0.35" and can operate any small brushed or brushless dc servo. The device provides inputs for two encoders, a motor, Hall sensors, and general I/O, and has the ability to receive step-and-direction signals.
As many as 120 of these controllers can be combined on an RS-485 network. Because of its small size, the controller can often be located in direct proximity of the motor, thereby reducing the amount of system cabling. The drive design is said to be well suited to run motors with a wide range of inductance, including very-low inductance motors.
