Unlike conventional solutions in which the motor strength decays with battery voltage, the MAX1749 buzzer/vibrator motor driver delivers constant force throughout its entire input voltage range of 2.5V to 6.5V. Designed for pagers and wireless handsets, the device acts as a regulator and logic-controlled switch and consumes just 1 nA in its off state to extend battery life. It comes with a fixed output intended for driving inexpensive, single-cell annunciators. Its output is also adjustable, permitting customization of buzzer strength and a wide range of load currents. Other features include output current limiting and thermal-overload and reverse battery protection. The IC is packaged in an ultra-small 5-pin SOT-23 package.
