Designed to replace bulky wire-wound resistors traditionally used in dynamic braking applications, a new series of braking resistors provides precise motion control and occupies less than one- quarter of the space required by conventional technologies. Based on the company's thick-film-on-steel technology, these components have a power density of 100W/cm2 with standard dielectric ratings of 2.4 kVac and 3.5 kVdc.
Operating temperature ranges up to 400°C, and fusing elements can be added to the resistors to provide additional surge and over-temperature protection. Temperature sensors or thermistors can also be added to give the system access to closed-loop feedback controls.
