Temperature Switch Suits Automotive Applications

May 1, 2001

This compact temperature sensor module can be customized to meet a number of applications for automotive systems. Designated the solid state temperature switch (SSTS) series, the basic module houses a precision thermistor element and a hybrid electronic control circuit designed to interface with other vehicle systems. The SSTS is custom configured for each application and involves joint engineering contributions to establish parameters such as d/a output, 12- or 24-V operation, connector selection, wire lengths, housing specifics, temperature trip point, and hysteresis. The modules are designed with a sensing element that protrudes into a system's airflow, measuring the air temperature. When the sensor temperature exceeds a programmable, pre-established, temperature trip point, the module's relay control circuit will switch the compressor or motor on.
