New compact, DIN-rail mounted current transducers can accept ac, dc or distorted current wave forms. The MCR-S 1/5-UI-(SW)-DCI and MCR-S 10/50-UI-(SW)-DCI modules are designed with a Hall-effect sensor so they can accept an adjustable current range of between 0A and 11A and 0A and 55A. The 0A to 11A version accepts a direction termination of the current signal wires, whereas the 0A to 55A version accepts the current carrying conductor passing through the center of the module’s 22.5 mm housing. Conductors pass through a magnetically permeable core holding the Hall-effect device. The sensor produces a voltage signal when exposed to the magnetic field, with the signal then amplified and measured as a process variable. Current signals from sources such as ac motors and drives can be converted into linearized dc signals to be monitored by the PLC. The MCR-S current transducer has three-way isolation between input, output and power to achieve high accuracy measurements. Output signals are 0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA, 0(1) to 5 Vdc, 0 to 10 Vdc, ±5V or ±10V, and the inverses of each. PHOENIX CONTACT INC., Harrisonburg, PA. (717)944-1300 ext 3662.
