Groomed for demanding motion-control chores, the ION 3000 digital-drive module employs the company's Magellan motion control IC and provides network connectivity, power amplification, and advanced motion control function. The module works with dc brush and brushless motors as well as micro-stepping motors, making it versatile enough for medical, scientific, semiconductor, industrial, robotic, and general automation applications. It accepts an input voltage from 20 to 190 Vdc and offers a user-selectable PWM frequency from 20 kHz or 40 kHz. Like other ION drives, it includes CANbus and serial communications, and accepts commands over a network to control trajectory generation, position loop, current loop, and other motion control features. The module controls a three-phase brushless motor via field-oriented control or sinusoidal commutation. User selectable profiling modes include S-curve, trapezoidal, velocity contouring, electronic gearing, and pulse and direction. Other features include hardware performance trace, on-the-fly profile changes, and PLC-style inputs and outputs. PERFORMANCE MOTION DEVICES INC., Lincoln, MA. (781) 674-9860.
