The AS5050 10-bit magnetic rotary encoder integrates automatic power-down and wake-up modes. On a single chip, it hosts four Hall elements, a 10-bit angle encoder, smart-power-management controller, and a three- or four-wire SPI. In its 4 mm x 4 mm QFN-16 package, only a few passive components and a magnet are necessary to assemble a contactless position measurement encoder system. The AS5050 operates from a 3.3V supply over an ambient temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Price is $ 2.84 each/1,000. AUSTRIAMICROSYSTEMS USA INC., Raleigh, NC. (919) 676-5292.
