Socket Supports 23 mm x 23 mm BGAs

May 25, 2011
The SM-BGA-9000 socket handles 23 mm x 23 mm, 0.8-mm pitch BGA devices and operates at bandwidths up to 40 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss.

The SM-BGA-9000 socket handles 23 mm x 23 mm, 0.8-mm pitch BGA devices and operates at bandwidths up to 40 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss. It can dissipate up to 4.5W with a heat sink compression screw and up to 100W when using a modified fin design and adding an axial-flow fan. Contact resistance is typically 15 m? per pin. Connecting all pins with 40-GHz bandwidth on all connections, the socket mounts on the target PCB with no soldering. Other specs include a temperature range from -55°C to +150°C, pin self inductance of 0.1 nH, mutual inductance of 0.007 nH, capacitance to ground of 0.069 pF, and a current capacity of 4A per pin. Pricing for the SM-BGA-9000 is $1,311 each.  IRONWOOD ELECTRONICS, Burnsville, MN. (800) 404-0204.
