What's being called the industry's first viable replacement for high-output fluorescent cove lights has been developed by Philips Color Kinetics. Called the eW Cove MX Powercore, the LED-based fixture meets or exceeds the performance of T5HO or 2-lamp T8 fluorescent strip lights.
The units are also the first white-light, line-voltage LED fixture to integrate auto-switching technology. Auto-switching automatically detects and adjusts to line voltages of 100, 120, 220—240, and 277 VAC. The fixture can be used for accent lighting and indirect general illumination, as well as several wall and ceiling cove applications. Philips also says the units exceed American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Chromaticity Standard C78.377A for color consistency and uniformity, effectively eliminating hue variation across LED sources, fixtures, and manufacturing runs. eW Cove MX Powercore is two times more precise than the standard set forth by ANSI. Use of enhanced DIMand technology offers dimming down to 1%. eW Cove MX Powercore is compatible with many electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmers. Efficacy is 52.7 lumens per watt.
eW Cove MX Powercore delivers more than 600 lumens per foot and is available in four color temperatures, ranging from a warm 2700 K to a cool 4000 K, four solid colors (blue, green, amber, red), and a wide beam angle. Additional beam angles (medium and narrow) will be available in the second quarter of 2010.
