The Flexiterm V+, a high-voltage MLC chip for applications requiring 600 V to 3000 V, has been added to the Flexiterm series of capacitors from AVX (http://www.avxcorp.com/). The capacitor provides high value, low leakage and small size in a rugged package that will not crack under extreme board flexure or temperature damage cycle conditions. The new device is designed for applications such as snubbers in high-frequency power converters and resonators in switched-mode power supplies (SMPS).

FLEXITERM is a soft termination system that allows a greater amount of board flexure than standard termination systems. FLEXITERM’s flexible termination comprises a conductive polymer layer that is then plated with nickel and tin. Resistance to mechanical failure can be attributed to the ability to reduce the transfer of mechanical stress exerted on the component body. Case sizes range from the 1206 to the 2220, and voltages range from 600 V to 3000 V.

The new components are available in a RoHS-compliant matte tin finish and also with a tin-lead finish. Pricing starts at $0.03.
