Extending playback time in audio-enabled portable products by 40 hours, the WM8903 audio codec features the company’s SmartDAC technology, a low-power DAC capacitor switching architecture that trims headphone-power consumption to 4.4 mW. It also provides a programmable capability for performance-versus-power profiles, allowing designers to optimize for each usage scenario such as docked or on the move. The device also includes the company’s Class W amplifier technology, a combination of class G and H featuring an adaptive dual drive charge pump and dc-servo-circuit architecture. The Class W headphone amplifier intelligently tracks the actual signal level and uses an adaptive dual drive charge pump to optimize power dissipation. The WM8903 is available for sampling now in a 40-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm x 0.55 mm QFN package. Price is $1.80 each/10,000. WOLFSON MICROELECTRONICS PLC, San Diego, CA. (858) 676-5090.
