Single-Conversion Tuner Boosts Analog/Digital TV Reception
The MAX3542, a single-conversion silicon tuner for hybrid (analog and digital) applications, employs a single down-conversion step from RF to 36 MHz to deliver artifact-free reception of analog signals and reliable reception of digital signals. The device specifies a typical image rejection of 70 dB while requiring a single external SAW filter. Performing as a replacement for canned tuners, its standard 36-MHz IF is compatible with most digital and analog demodulators. Additionally, the device integrates tracking filters, a crystal oscillator circuit, synthesizer, and an IF VGA, plus it consumes 230 mA typical from a single 3.3V supply. Available in a 48-pin, 7 mm x 7 mm fcLGA package, prices start at $4.90 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
