In the form of an enhanced version of the company's MB86H50, the MB86H51 is reportedly the industry’s first single-chip for full HD H.264 High Profile version 4.0 video processing that integrates embedded memory. The device also compresses and decompresses audio in real-time via formats such as MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2. Measuring 15-mm square, it integrates two blocks of FCRAM at 256 Mb each and specifies a power consumption of 750 mW. A proprietary algorithm automatically applies less compression to areas in the image where artifacts are most noticeable to human vision and increases compression in other areas. This feature also makes it possible to reduce image size to between one-half and one-third the size of the MPEG-2 format with an equivalent level of image quality. Available in a 650-pin FBGA package, the MB86H51 will begin sampling in July with a sample price of $290. FUJITSU COMPONENTS AMERICA INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 380-0059.
