Expanding the company's audio codec offerings, the WM8772 is the first of the line to integrate an a/d converter, the stereo WM8738, and the six-channel d/a converter WM8746 on a single chip. The new device can configure the a/d converter to be the master and the d/a converter the slave or vice versa. Audio performance features of the d/a converter include a SNR of -103 dB A-weighted at 48 kHz and a sampling frequency from 8 kHz to 192 kHz. The a/d converter provides a SNR of -90 dB A-weighted at 48 kHz and a sampling frequency range from 8 kHz to 96 kHz. The device operates from an analog supply voltage from 2.7V to 5.5V or from a digital supply voltage from 2.7V to 3.6V. The WM8772 comes in either a 28-pin SSOP or a 32-pin TQFP. In the SSOP, the a/d and d/a converters must use the same sample rate; in the TQFP, there is no such restriction. Available now, the SSOP is priced at $5.62 each/1,000 pieces and the TQFP costs $6 each/1,000. WOLFSON MICROELECTRONICS LTD., Edinburgh, England. (+44) 131-272-7151.
