Up to 14 hours of music- about 200 music tracks- can be stored on a single audio CD when incorporating the MP3 chipset, which consists of the MAS 3507D signal processor and the 3550A D/A converter IC. The chipset, which can play back MP3-coded CDs, also features portable MPEG Layer 3 (MP3) flash players. With this system, it is possible to compress music of normal CD quality to 1/12 that of the data stream with virtually no perceptible loss of quality, it's claimed.The chipset, which is also equipped to understand speech, is available in a 44-pin QFP package.
