Groomed for use with low-noise analog, differential, current-feedback audio preamplifiers, the THAT5171 digital gain controller can set gain in 1 dB steps, while preserving low noise and distortion. The device operates from ±5V to ±17V supplies and supports input signal levels as high as +22 dBu at 5.6 dB gain and ±17 V supplies. Gain error is guaranteed at ±0.5 dB maximum at all gain settings. To reduce zipper noise in audio applications, the 5171 includes a differential servo and zero-crossing detector to minimize dc offsets and glitches during gain adjustments.
