Two new devices, an integrated, high-voltage dc/dc regulator and a current-mode PWM controller, target power conversion applications in next-generation communication systems. Available in either a TSSOP-16 or LLP-14 package, the LM5000 dc/dc switching regulator integrates an 80V/2A FET and a 3.1V to 40V startup bias regulator. The device operates at user-defined frequencies of 300 kHz, 600 kHz, 700 kHz, or 1.25 MHz. Other features include over-temperature and low-power shutdown modes and soft-start circuitry. The LM5030 PWM controller is claimed as the industry's first 100V, high-frequency current-mode dc/dc controller. It integrates a 15V to 100V startup regulator in a thermally enhanced CSP package measuring 4 mm x 4 mm. It also includes a programmable oscillator with external synchronization and dual, 2A MOSFET drivers. Current limit propagation delay is less than 100 ns. Other features include dual-mode current sense limiting, thermal shutdown, user-programmable soft-start, and internal slope compensation. Price for the LM5000 is $2.00 each/1,000 and for the LM5030 is $1.85. More information is available from NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 272-9959.
