Transforming high-definition MPEG-2 video data to H.264 format, the MB86H52 transcoder forecasts longer video recording times by a factor of 2.5. Reportedly, the chip can compress MPEG-2 video to less than half its original size, allowing HD-video transmissions over narrow bandwidths while maintaining high video quality. It operates at a frequency of 216 MHz and integrates DDR2 memory with a 324-MHz interface. Power requirements are 2W at 1.2V typical during HD transcoding.
