Delivering 2.1W/channel from a 5V source, the LM4873 Boomer stereo power amplifier IC drives a 4 ohm load with less than 1% THD at 1 kHz for high-quality laptop computer audio. The amplifier powers stereo headphones from a single-ended mode or stereo speakers from a dual bridge speaker drive. An input-select multiplexer allows toggling between two sets of stereo amplifier inputs.Power consumption is just 17 mA in the active mode, and 0.7 µA is consumed in shutdown/mute mode. Operation is from supplies of 2V to 5.5V. The amplifier includes circuitry that suppresses the pops and clicks often associated with system power-up.
