Claiming less than half the power consumption of competitive devices of similar performance, the AK4550 is a 2.5V, 16-bit stereo codec useful for increasing battery life of portable systems. The device is said to be ideal for cost-sensitive consumer applications such as MP3 players or low-cost digital audio systems. Any portable system requiring a codec will benefit from the codec’s low-voltage, low-power operation. The chip has an analog-to-digital dynamic range of 88 dB and a digital-to-analog dynamic range of 92 dB. Single-ended inputs and outputs reduce the need for external components. On-chip switched capacitor post filters create high jitter tolerance.
