Two SMPTE 292M-compliant ICs have been developed that are claimed to offer new opportunities to designers of routing, production and master-control switches, as well as distribution amplifiers, studio cameras and video tape recorders, non-linear editors, and other HDTV applications. The VSC6511 is a dual-function CMOS device with user-selectable operating modes, including serializer, deserializer, and deserializer with reclocker output. The VSC6501 is a SMPTE 292M-compliant bit serial interface IC that performs clock and data recovery from incoming HDTV signals. Samples are available now with production quantities scheduled for release in September of this year. Pricing for the devices in quantities of 1000 is less than $71.00 each for the VSC6511 and $56.00 each for the VSC6501.
