The J2210 media processor packs a myriad of features that include a parallel processing, programmability, and low-frequency operation in a highly integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC). Intended applications include wireless video phones, camera accessory modules, wireless PDAs, and wireless PC and network cameras. The processor accepts Bayer RGB or YUV 4:2:2 input after which users can program image correction, enhancement, color balance, and auto exposure. Output options include MPEG-4 (simple profile, level 1, 2 and 3), 176 x 144 QCIF at 30 fps, 352 x 288 CIF at 7 fps (I and P frames), 352 x 288 CIF at 25 fps (I frame only), JPEG up to 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, MJPEG, 640 x 480 VGA at 15 fps, and 352 x 288 CIF at 30 fps. The device also integrates vocoders that handle CELP, AMR, G.723.1, G.726a, and G.729 formats and includes a digital interface to access an external A/D converter. Other features include support for a wide range of CMOS sensors, 50 and 25 MHz system clocks, a 100 MHz operating frequency, 1.2V core and 2.5V and 3.3V I/Os, power consumption of less than 75 mW when delivering MPEG-4 QCIF output at 15 fps, and operating temperatures from -20°C to 85°C. Fabricated using a 0.13 µm CMOS process, the J2210 is available in either a 12 x 12 mm, 180-pin CABGA with a 0.8 mm ball pitch or 10 x 10 mm, 180-pin CABGA with a 0.65 mm ball pitch.
