Debuting as the latest addition to the BSP family of video processors, the BSP-16 system-on-chip (SoC) promises higher system performance, wider chip connectivity, lower system cost, and improved power efficiency. Target applications include consumer video appliances, multi-function DVD player/recorder devices, video surveillance products, and video conferencing systems. Fabricated using 0.13-µm technology, the device operates at up to 500 MHz with a power consumption between 1W to 2W while delivering up to 50 GOPS of video processing power. Other features include up to eight billion MAC operations per second and support for Windows Media 9 Series, H.264/AVC, DivX Video, Real Video, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MP3, AC3, AAC, H.263, JPEG, MJPEG, and On2 VP6. A suite of network transport, stream management, digital rights management, and user interface tools is also available. Additionally, the BSP-16 natively runs Linux, VxWorks and eCos with system software, such as Java virtual machine and web browsers. The SoC will cost an estimated $20 each in volume when it becomes available in early 2004. For more details, contact Ying Dillaha at EQUATOR TECHNOLOGIES INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 369-5457.
