Said to set a standard for high-quality video encoding in consumer products, five additional members of the ARC video subsystem family employ the company's patent-pending VRaptor dynamic-encoding technology, which reportedly enables the encoding of video streams at the lowest power to date. The AV 417V, AV 407V, AV406V, AV 404V, and AV 402V are capable of encoding and decoding up to standard-definition video using standards such as H.264. Based on the VRaptor multi-core architecture, each is programmable, encodes and decodes a wide range of popular video standards, and comes with optimized media processing elements including up to two 128-bit SIMD media processors, a dual-channel media-optimized DMA engine, separate multi-standard encoding and decoding accelerators, a programmable motion estimation accelerator, SoC development tools, and optimized video codecs. Additionally, the subsystems can double as processors, performing computing functions other than those specific to the target feature set. The subsystem family is now available for licensing worldwide. ARC INTERNATIONAL, San Jose, CA. (408) 437-3400.
