Optimized to support SATA II speeds, the MAX4951AE dual-channel buffer redrives SATA I and SATA II signals and integrates a cable-detect function. The device preserves signal integrity at the receiver by reestablishing full output levels and it can allegedly reduce total system jitter by squaring the signal. It supports SATA out-of-band signaling by using high-speed amplitude detection on the inputs and amplitude squelch on the corresponding outputs. The chip detects input signals of 50mVp-p as off and does not pass them to the output while signals of 200 mVp-p are on and pass through the output. Additionally, the MAX4951AE is reportedly the only eSATA/SATA redriver in the industry that can enter a low-power standby mode when the integrated cable-detect pin is either pulled high or left unconnected.
