Offering greater design options for consumer, lighting, and industrial-control apps, the ATtiny4, ATtiny5, ATtiny9, and ATtiny10 AVR microcontrollers (MCUs) come in eight-pad UDFN packages measuring 2 mm x 2 mm x 0.6 mm and weighing less than 8 mg. Allegedly 55% smaller than other 6-/8-pin flash microcontrollers on the market, the devices also report six times higher processing speeds. They are based on the company’s patented low-power picoPower technology, which allows them to operate at 650 nA, with a real-time clock running and less than 100 nA in power down. Additionally, the MCUs execute code at speeds up to 12 MIPS at 12 MHz. Pricing starts at $0.52 each/10,000. ATMEL CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 441-0311.
