Providing copy protection and license-management security over a single-contact interface, the DS28E10 authentication IC combines a FIPS 180-3 secure hash algorithm (SHA-1) with commands operating on a programmable, private and random challenge from a host controller. The device enables private sizes from 64 bits to 288 bits. The host challenge is 96 bits. Other features include 28 bytes of user-programmable OTP-EPROM, an unalterable, factory-programmed 64-bit serial number, communication via Maxim's one-wire interface, operation from a 2.8V to 3.6V supply, and an operating temperature from -40°C to +85°C.
