The FSA8008 audio-jack detection and configuration switch is a one-chip audio-jack detector and switch for three- or four-pole accessories. According to the company, current designs require several discrete components (dual comparator, analog switch, and MOSFET) with software control whereas the FSA8008 integrates this functionality into a single device. In addition to detection, the device allows the use of third-party headphones via a microphone switch that allows the processor to configure the audio jack. The FSA8008 also eliminates leakage current when the microphone plugs in. Other features include the ability to eliminate the insertion pop and click noise on the MIC path when the jack touches the MIC bias first. Available in a 10-lead UMLP package measuring 1.4 mm x 1.8 mm x 0.5 mm with a 0.4-mm pitch, pricing is $0.33 each/1,000. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (800) 341-0392.
