Silicon Motion extended its Ferri line with single-package Ferri-eMMC and SATA 6-Gbit/s FerriSSD embedded memories. Ferri-eMMCs, packaged in a 100-ball, 1.0-mm-pitch ball grid array (BGA), complies with the JEDEC-standard eMMC 4.5 protocol. The SM667 and SM661 incorporate the company’s NAND management technologies, such as error correction, bad-block management, and NAND health monitoring. The former handles high-reliability applications that require up to 30K Program/Erase (P/E) cycles, and the latter targets cost-sensitive systems with less stringent endurance requirements. Both come in commercial (‒25 to 85°C) and industrial (‒40 to 85°C) temperature grades, and in 2- to 32-Gbyte configurations. The FerriSSDs are single-package SATA, 6-Gbit/s solid-state-disks (SSDs) with embedded DRAM to extend SSD life and delivers up to 80,000 random input/outputs per second (IOPS). They embed the company’s NAND flash controllers along with NAND flash memory plus DRAM in a 90-ball, 1.0-mm-pitch BGA. The SM659 and SM619 leverage Silicon Motion technologies such as PowerShield, Intelligent Scan DataRefresh, and SSDLifeGuard health monitoring. The former targets high-reliability applications that require up to 30K P/E cycles, and the latter will fit cost-effective systems. Both come in commercial (0 to 70°C) and industrial (‒40 to 85°C) temperature grades, and in 8- to 64-Gbyte configurations.
