Tiny LED Driver Suits Industrial And Architectural Lighting Apps
A high-voltage, step-down dc-dc controller, the SP7601, targets LED driver applications. The device delivers an input voltage of up to 30 V, which allows it to support the 24 Vdc and 12 Vdc rails commonly found in architectural and general LED lighting systems. With a high operating frequency (1.2 MHz), internal compensation, and the ability to operate without an output capacitor, the SP7601 fits into a 2.9 mm x 2.8 mm, 6-pin TSOT package. A flexible architecture supports 1W, 5W, and 10W LEDs, enabling designers to re-use a common platform and cut time-to-market. The controller’s 0.2V feedback eliminates excessive heating in the LED, so designers can focus on the thermal concerns associated with high-current LEDs. The SP7601 supports pulse-width modulation dimming and color mixing by allowing for PWM control up to 1 kHz with duty cycles as low as 10%. The device is lead-free and operates over a –40°C to 125°C range. Samples are available now. The SP7601 costs $1.05 each/1000. EXAR CORP., Fremont, CA. (510) 668-7000.
