Multiple JPEG image processing cores provide a range of performance options for systems that need to encode or decode JPEG images. Cores in the CAST family include a baseline core series that provides inexpensive image compression and decompression. The cores can be delivered preconfigured to specific requirements, or system designers can configure more advanced versions. Advanced options like motion, speed doubling, and program control let designers handle video streams, run the cores at double the speed, and gain access to a set of controllable processing factors. A core combining all of these features, called JPEG Super, is available. The JPEG cores were developed by partner Alma Technologies (www.alma-tech.com).
